After Diego Maradona it was the turn of French Striker Thierry Henry to cruelly knock a team out of the World Cup. Henry’s handball incident which knocked out promising Ireland team out of the 2010 FIFA world cup was widely criticized by football experts all around the world. After a disappointing first leg, the Irish team came out with all guns blazing for the crucial second leg. They played their heart out and thereby took a 1-0 lead When the match was all set to go to a tiebreaker for deciding the qualifier, there came the most unfortunate and unforgettable incident in the history of Ireland football which left all Irish fans in tears. Thierry Henry scored the equalizer after deliberately handling the ball twice. France qualified for the World Cup final. The crowd was shell shocked. They could not accept this kind of cheating. Though Thierry Henry apologized at the end of the match, boisterous Irish fans refused to calm down. The man who really let Ireland down was the match referee Martin Hansson who failed to notice Henry handling the ball. The part of the blame has to be taken by FIFA governing body for not appointing assistant referees for crucial matches.
